- 1. The formless and endless being, who has the same graceful form of Lord Dakshinamurthy, the Guru situated under the tree, for the sake of devotees who come to realize the Self, has come embracing the lap of Arunachala as our Guru. Oh my heart!, hence know this; the final refuge for the devotees who wish for that auspicious moment to end entering another womb, to destroy darkness, and to experiennce a new dawn is always the lotus feet of Guru Ramana. In order to get close to those feet, melt in surrender, Oh my heart!
- 2. For the benefit of the devotees to receive all the methods to attain the liberated state of oneness, Śiva patiently answered the questions of Devi
Uma
whose face shines bright like a pearl. Who is that Lord Śiva? He is none other than our liberated Guru Ramana. He is there all the time as a presence in the heart of devotees. Since he is always present, leaning on that, I who am ignorant, who stay in this illusory world which is filled with tricks, torture and craziness, before I die and perish, I have to churn inside and find in my heart that one and only truth and experience it, that which is graced by our liberated Guru. Oh my heart! Since our Guru is in the heart, churn and practice, abiding in the Self.
- 3. Once, long ago, leaving his kith and kin, he went to the hill and rejected everything that is not the ultimate truth and stood in unity with that one truth. As a result, he became ripe and established himself in the Self. That Lord Guha from Palani, who left Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha, when he did not receive the fruit of knowledge, is none but our Lord Ramana who also left his family and came to Arunachala hill similarly. Through Lord Ramana's grace when will the ego
perish
of this small headed person, who is wandering in the current moment in various ways of this illusory world? In order to annihilate your wretched ego and its consequences today itself, Oh my heart! merge and be one with the effulgent fire of Lord Ramana who shines as Lord Arunachala-Śiva in the heart.
- 4. The queen of Madurai, the city of honey, the Mother, Devi Meenakshi, who protects the Jivas with the constant vigilance of her open eyes, devoid of winking - like a fish - merged with Lord Shiva and claimed the left-side of his body. From her womb of knowledge, a son, a fiery flame was born, who shines in the location of the heart and who took the form of silence. He is that Jnani who came to destroy the false notion that this body is 'I' and to bestow the highest bliss. In that way Bhagavan is our mother too. So, leave the rest and get hold of the feet of this silent Guru which is the path of true knowledge to realize the Self and it is the Self. Oh my heart!
- 5. The world of maya, the abysmal pit - of forgetting the Self and engaging in the world - has its hook far and wide. It rules our mind and intellect. It digs a pit to catch and pull us. Its hook touches and makes us wander a lot here in this world. Is there a way to escape, return and be rid of all those impurities? By the grace of our Lord, when Arjuna, the son of Pandur, asked for that escape route, Panduranga who is Sri Krishna, the white-colored Lord, explained the truth that he embodies as
'Bhagavad Gita'.
When the devotees of this world requested the son of the Pandya
reign
Bhagavan translated 40 gems from the Bhagavad Gita in beautiful Tamiḷ for our sake. Following the teachings from that, please return to that mendicant, our Bhagavan’'s feet, Oh my heart. That is the escape route!
- 6. Darkness is everywhere in this material world. Lord Dakshinamoorthy the greatest silent teacher who sat facing south, appeared and destroyed it. He decided to break that greatest silence that dispels all doubts and came down as the Guru Shankara
Bhagavadpada.
But really who is this Shankara? That chief of Gods, Lord Śhiva, who kicked the ego, like Lord Yama, that is, our Lord Venkata Raman or Ramana Maharishi is indeed this Shankara. Let us unite with the red lotus feet of that Lord Ramana. Let us stay close to His soft feet, Oh my heart!
- 7. To destroy the collective seeds of innumerable births all of which are lit by the hollow ego that gets to the head, one infant cried its heart out. Listening to that, driven by compassion, Goddess Parvati devi along with Lord Shiva and their Nandhikeshwara, left the Kailash hill and came down to provide the ambrosia of knowledge through her own hands to the infant devotee, Sri Thirugnana Sambandar of the Brahmapuram (Sirkazhi). The compassionate form of that young guru Sambandar appeared again and he is none other than our Lord Ramana. Since he is the ultimate brahman, please join the supreme feet of our Lord, Oh my heart!
- 8. Lord Brahma, the groom of goddess Vani and Lord Krishna, the Lord who carries the flute, (or Vishnu) watched in shame as their egos were crushed by the ever-rising column of fire, i.e., the infinite form of Lord Ambala Vanan. He is none other than our Lord who lives in Sona Giri, the great purusha, i.e., Lord Ramana, who assumed out of his compassion, this infinite pillar form of fire. In front of His piercing arrow like two eyes, my impure ego will break into pieces and disintegrate. In order to pluck out its root, please remember the feet of the excellent and noble guru and practice that noble discipline without fail, Oh my heart!
- 9. In this thicket of a world, I search for happiness, relations and fun life-long, and end up experiencing the end of my fate (time). To demystify this puzzle, Oh my heart! know that the world in front of you is a dream that will dissolve any moment and that they are playful concoctions of the useless mind. Leave this mind created world and trace the core of the wandering thoughts by enquiry. That will be the entry gate to the heart of the Self. If you do that, you will soak in the eternal light every day emanated by our glowing Lord Ramana inside this heart. So pray to that Lord Ramana and know that He is synonymous with the Heart, Oh my heart!
- 10. Why does this so called ego, the small “I” embrace this limited boundary of a physical body, the confines of the imperfect intellect and the ever jumping deer of a mind? To end this colossal stupidity, to destroy the seeds of this bodily attachment and to annihilate this illusion, let the day blossom when I become aware of the infinite awareness that starts at the end of the thread of the ego 'I', When will that day arrive? When you take the vow of deeply listening to the sweet honey words of our Lord Ramana, who is the treasure incarnate of the Self, then by His Grace, it will arrive and bestow the greatness of abiding in the Self, Oh my heart!
- 11. Who is Deva Ramana? He is the ego that grows further and further as one tries to cut it. He is the body that hosts pain and disease. He is the weight of the individual soul, Jiva. He is the five elements of water, fire, air, earth and the vast space. He is all the demi-gods and demi-goddesses. From him these three worlds spring forth. This Self who is everything that we perceive and beyond is our Deva Ramana. Weaving His name with the tongue, call His name, call the Self, call our guru who is the ultimate perfect final knowledge, as he is the boat that will take you there to Self, Oh my heart!
- 12. With the impetus from the phantom ego, we perform the ignorant action of leaving our abidance in the Self, and we take this worldly pit as the real home and wander. Our ego sprouts, perks its head up, runs after worldly things. Because of that, fame and wealth follow; but they do not stay; they break their ties with us. But using this phantom copy of Self, i.e., the ego, if we dig deep into our self, the ego will hide and get annihilated. What shines forth then is our inner Ramana. Because of Him our Self lights up. The bud of our heart loosens and blossoms. Bliss follows. That is the real Self, Oh my heart!
