Remembering Sri Comal Subramanian
Comal Mama was relentless in his devotion and his movements – an unstoppable force that only the final destined Divine Call could stop.
But, to be honest, I don’t believe even this will stop him.
He was loved and revered by all who had met him in Arunachala Ashrama, both in New York and Canada.
After sending out the notice of his passing to some friends who had known him, I received numerous responses.
Below are just a few of them.
President, Arunachala Ashrama
I met him during our 2016 trip to the N.S.Arunacahala Ashrama when we had a spiritually uplifting and blissful interaction with Comal Mama who told us in detail about his days with Bhagavan.
Mama has surely reached Bhagavan’s Feet. He was always so full of life and cheerful. His enthusiasm was contagious. He will be missed.
Comal mama was a pious person. He had seen Bhagavan when He was in His physical body and that seemed to always guide him. I had the pleasure of meeting Comal-mama a few times. He was always happy and cheerful.
May Bhagavan rest his soul in peace.
On December 4 with 96 years and in the peace of Bhagavan with the tranquility of always our friend Commal left his body to be absorbed at the feet of his beloved Guru Bhagavan.
His joy, his palming, his attentive look and his strength will remain in our memories and our hearts.
Until recently he traveled very well with his western suit to all our meeting places, New York, Nova Scotia (Canada) and then put on his simple white Doti and in deep devotion sink into silence. Then we felt his applause, his laughter and his way of expressing the joy of singing and praising the Lord.
His tears fell when he shuddered telling his first Darshan with Sri Ramana acompanied by his mother in the 40s.
Then his still wet eyes were able to laugh and light up with the light of Bhagavan.
Glad to hear he is at peace & no doubt merged in the Divine! He was an inspiration and blessing to all of us!
Thank you for sharing this with us. Remembering his visits with us in Coral Springs and Tampa and seeing him so often at Arunachala Ashrama.
He will be missed but am grateful to have had the privilege of his kindly and cheerful company over the years.
When I first came to Arunachala Ashrama in 2013 Aradhana, i was in the same room with him. Still remember how enthusiastic he was. Told me that he has seen Bhagawan in person He showed me an article in 'The Mountain Path' of Maharshi that he had written
Always smiling and with such positive energy even at that age I will miss him just like all of you.
Namaskarams to the Silent Sage of Arunachala. Sri Comal mama, a very affectionate, sincere devotee of Bhagavan has left us and attained the Sayujya. We were fortunate to have met him and his visit to our home in Dartmouth, NS, Canada brought happiness.
He had rich experience and worked at Visakhapatnam, my town, and took us back to the good old times with his anecdotes. He was a kind person and was called mamaji by all. He served his best and will be always remembered. Our deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest In Peace.
Thank you for letting me know, Dennis. It was a wonderful chance meeting seeing Comal mama a few months ago. He was so active and telling every person at the temple about how he had seen Bhagavan. It was really endearing to see the love in his eyes and voice for Bhagavan. My prayers to the family and for the departed soul's peaceful eternal journey. May he attain Bhagavan’s abode.
He merged with Bhagavan for sure. Knowing people like him is a blessing
I remember the story our Comal would tell of being a scared young man who was serving in the army. He prayed to Bhagavan to protect him and as he was walking along the top deck of his sentry post, praying to Bhagavan, he looked up and in the bright moon he clearly saw the face of Bhagavan. He knew with certainty that he was being entirely protected by Bhagavan.
What a treasure his stories and life have been to us.
I always think of Comal when wearing the insulated hiking boots he bought for me years ago at the Good Will store in Concord. Everyone in the store enjoyed his visits. I still wear them.
I remember meeting him as someone who has seen Bhagavan with his physical eyes. Every time I talked to him, I always hoped that some of the physical proximity he experienced would somehow rub off on me :) I remember him being very loving and gracious to everyone. He would lovingly distribute chocolates to children. His speech at one of the events was filled with deep love for our Master. It was evident that he lived feeling Bhagavan's Grace and Presence throughout his life. Very happy to hear that he left his body peacefully, painlessly and I am sure in the light of Bhagavan's Grace.
from: Comal's brother
and a host of other relatives and friends in India
He was CVS MANI to most of his friends and relatives in India and Comal his friends in USA. He was a World War II veteran. He hailed from a very humble yet a noble family, known for their teaching skills and prowess. His native place was Komal, which is in Tamil Nadu, India. After his formal education in Chennai, then Madras, he went on to join the RAF, Royal Air Force. He was in the war front and actively participated in bombing sorties. He then came to Bombay and joined Air India and served there until his retirement.
He was pious and spiritual, always reciting verses on Gods. He was a simple, joyful and a loveable person, always willing to help people, even if they happen to be strangers. His humour and child like laughter can never be forgotten.
He had the good fortune of meeting many saints during their lifetime. He had met Ramana Maharshi of Tiruvannamalai, Aurobindo & Mother of Pondicherry and Sage of Kanchi – Sri Sri Mahaperiyava of Kanchipuram. He was there on the occasions of Maha Samadhi of both Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri Aurobindo.
He was very affectionate towards his family members. Even after settling down in US he never missed an opportunity to visit his relatives and friends in India. He had four brothers and was instrumental in educating 3 of them: one a Doctor, another a Professor and the last, an officer with MNC. He was actively associated with the Ramana Center, New York. He was revered and respected and used to take part in the activities of Arunachala Ashrama, New York and Nova Scotia, Canada.`
May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
Let Lord Arunachala and Ramana give us strength to bear with this great loss.Lalitha's reply to Dennis
